10th Street NE Old Northeast Aprons

10th Street NE runs through the same Old Northeast grid, where driveway aprons meet a public street that may be brick, asphalt patch, or a mix of both. The apron is the piece the car hits first, and it is the piece that fails first if the base stops at the property line.

Apron to the city approach

We measure from the garage or carport slab to the existing street approach, then mark where our work ends and the right-of-way begins. The field has to meet that approach without a lip that catches a bumper, and it has to pitch so wash water does not sit against the slab.

  • Base depth carried through the apron, not just under the visible field

  • A rigid edge at the street side so the first course does not walk into the gutter

  • Pitch away from the house and toward a legal street drainage path

  • A joint detail that can be opened if the city later resets the approach

Cars, not just the look

A passenger car and a delivery van do not load an apron the same way. We size the base for the heavier vehicle that actually uses the drive, and we keep the pattern from creating a long unbroken joint in the wheel path.
