13th Street NE Old Northeast Walkways
13th Street NE is a short Old Northeast run near the Coffee Pot edge, where front walks share space with oak roots, low walls, and the occasional seawall-side path to a dock gate.
Short walks, same rules
A twenty-foot walk still needs a base. We excavate the failed sand bed, compact aggregate, and set the walk so it meets the sidewalk and the porch without a toe-catcher. If the path continues to a dock gate, that second run is pitched so wash water does not sit on the landing.
Match the existing sidewalk elevation unless the city edge has already dropped
Keep the porch step as the high point
Cut the pattern so a future root lift can be reset in one section
Leave a clean edge at any lamp-post or address-light plinth
What we do not cover
We build the private walk and the landing. We do not reset the public sidewalk or the seawall itself. If the cap or the city approach is the real problem, we say so before the walk goes in.
