142nd Street North St. Pete Walkways | PaverForge

Front walks on 142nd Street North are short, but they take the worst of the lot: the public sidewalk on one end, a porch slab on the other, and a planting strip that heaves after a wet summer. Cracked concrete walks here usually failed at the porch joint, not in the middle of the run.

A walk that does not hold water

We pull the failed concrete or the settled pavers, compact an aggregate base, and set the new field with a gentle cross-slope so water leaves the walk instead of sitting against the slab. The sidewalk end is matched so the city joint is not a lip. Edge restraint keeps the field from walking into the turf.

Root heave from a street tree is a separate problem. If a root is lifting the walk, we do not pave over it and hope. We note it on the walk-through and build the base around a realistic cut, or we leave that bay until the root is dealt with.

Walkway details that matter here

  • Cross-slope away from the house, not a valley down the center

  • Porch joint that does not trap the screen-door sweep

  • Sidewalk elevation matched so the public joint stays flush

  • Edge restraint along the turf so the field does not creep

  • Joint sand locked after compaction

How to start a walkway quote

Call PaverForge Hardscapes at 727-490-9798. Photos of the porch joint, the sidewalk end, and any heaved bay are enough to start. We walk the run before we lock a number. Service outlines are on paverforge.com/services.
