Courtyards on 165th Street North are often the only outdoor floor a ranch has. The lanai roof dumps water at the slab edge, and the side yard is barely wide enough for a wheelbarrow.
How we build the floor
We excavate to a firm cut, place geotextile where the sand is loose, and compact base in lifts. The field pitches away from the house and off the lanai track, not into a planting bed that has nowhere to go.
Patio thickness is enough here. Cars stay on the drive. Joints get a sand that can be topped after summer storms, not a one-week cosmetic fill.
