176th Street North St. Pete Aprons
176th Street North sits on the northwest St. Petersburg grid, near the Lealman line, where the city apron is short and the shoulder is sand. A paver field that looks level on the driveway can still pond at the gutter if the throat is thin or the pitch dies before the curb.
What the apron has to do
We measure the city approach, the sidewalk joint, and the high point after a rain. Passenger cars get an 80mm paver on a compacted base. The edge restraint stays off the public sidewalk, and the pitch runs to the gutter instead of back toward the garage.
What usually fails here
A thin base over fill sand, a cut that leaves the last row floating, and a joint that was never locked. Utility locate comes before we open the throat. We do not cover a valve box or a handhole.
