181st Street North walkways often start at a side door, not the street porch. The yard is low, the irrigation is shallow, and the path is the only dry line after a summer rain.

A dry line to the door

We sleeve irrigation before the base goes in and pitch the walk so water does not sit at the threshold. The border is restrained so it does not migrate into the bed.

Gates and landings

A gate needs a flat landing wider than the swing. We do not run a slope through the latch.
