184th Street North St. Pete Walkways
Walkway failure on this grid
Walkways on 184th Street North often run from a raised porch to a sidewalk that has settled. Oak roots lift the third or fourth course. The old path was pitched flat, so a summer squall sheets against the stucco instead of turning to the yard.
We saw-cut the failed run, protect the irrigation laterals, and rebuild on a compacted base with a consistent cross-slope to the lawn. Where a root is still growing, we bridge it with a thicker base and a control joint rather than shaving the root and waiting for the next heave.
Step-downs at the porch are kept under a comfortable riser. The landing is wide enough for a grocery drop without standing in the mulch. Joint sand is compacted so the path does not track grit into the house after the first rain.
Cross-slope to the yard, not against the porch slab
Root bridges and control joints instead of a thin sand patch
Irrigation laterals located before the cut
Landing width that works for the front door swing
