196th Street North St. Pete Walkways
196th Street North walks are often the only dry path from the drive to the door. They are narrow, shaded on one side, and crossed by irrigation and downspouts. A walk that holds water becomes slick algae in a month.
Narrow access, real base
We stage aggregate so we do not block the neighbor gate, then excavate the walk to a depth that leaves compacted base under the field. Edge restraint is set before the pavers, not after, so the first course cannot kick into the mulch.
Cross-slope away from the house, even on a three-foot path
Sleeve irrigation and low-voltage lines before the base goes in
Keep a flush joint at the stoop so the threshold does not become a trip
Leave a cleanout or drain collar accessible if a yard drain crosses the path
Gulf-side color still fades. Through-body pavers and a joint sand that locks after the field is dry are the spec we use on these short north-county walks.
