198th Street North St. Pete Aprons
198th Street North aprons take the same punishment as any north Pinellas approach: delivery trucks, summer cloudbursts, and a sand subgrade that pumps if it is not cut out. The failure shows up as a dip at the gutter and a first course that has walked.
Street joint first
We set the apron elevation off the existing approach, not off a wish for a flat photo. The field falls from the garage toward a legal outfall and meets the street without a ridge. Compacted aggregate goes in lifts. A rigid edge holds the street course.
Cut out soft sand instead of bridging it with extra bedding
Keep the apron clear of the public sidewalk joint if one exists
Through-body pavers so the tire path does not show a worn face
Joint sand only after the field is dry and locked
Sealing is a later conversation. A wet or dirty apron should not be sealed the day it is laid.
