227th Street North St. Pete Side Yards

Side-yard pavers on 227th Street North in St. Petersburg have to pass a gate, clear the air conditioner, and get water off the foundation.

The strip is narrow. A field that is pitched the wrong way ponds at the stem wall and pumps sand out of the joints.

What we check

Gate width is measured with the bins and the mower, not just the empty opening.

The condenser service side stays open. Edge restraint stays on the path side of the bed so mulch does not swallow the border.

A hose bib and an irrigation line are sleeved before the base. Cutting them later softens the only path to the backyard.

How to start
