248th Street North St. Pete Aprons
Driveway aprons on 248th Street North in north Pinellas fail at the gutter when the base stops short of the street joint. The pavers look fine for a season. The first wet week drops the row that meets the concrete curb.
Where the apron breaks
Numbered streets this far north sit on sandy fill. A thin sand bed under the apron cannot carry a truck tire at the gutter. Water also runs off the crown of the street and sits in the joint if the apron has no pitch back to the gutter.
PaverForge Hardscapes cuts the failed row, rebuilds a compacted aggregate base to the street joint, and resets the apron so it meets the gutter without a lip. Edge restraint stays buried so the field does not creep toward the road.
What the apron spec includes
Compacted aggregate base sized for cars, not a patio sand bed
Pitch to the gutter so stormwater does not pond on the apron
Edge restraint pinned before the field is compacted
Joint sand locked after compaction, not broadcast and left
