253rd Street North St. Pete Walkways
Walkways on 253rd Street North wash out at the mailbox run when joint sand has no edge and no pitch. The daily walk to the box is the first place a loose field opens.
Mailbox runs take the wear
That short path gets foot traffic, a bin wheel, and roof splash. Without an edge, the border paver kicks out. Without pitch, the joint stays wet and the sand leaves.
We restrain both sides, pitch the run off the walk, and compact joint sand so the next storm does not empty it. If the base is hollow, we rebuild that section instead of topping it.
What keeps the run locked
Edge restraint on both sides of a narrow run
Pitch off the path so water does not sit in the joint
Joint sand compacted, not just swept
Base rebuilt where the mailbox pad has sunk
