274th Street North Ozona Walkways
Ozona is the older fishing community just inland of Crystal Beach, with cottages, oak canopy, and side yards that were never planned for a modern walk. 274th Street North is part of that numbered grid. A walkway here is a path, not a plaza.
Narrow lots and the drip line
The useful width is often 3 feet, sometimes 4 if the AC pad and the fence allow it. We keep the walk off the foundation and out from under the heaviest drip line when we can. Where the oak owns the route, we use a textured paver and a joint that will not stay slick after a morning rain.
Gate, porch, and the one step that matters
Historic Ozona porches sit at odd heights. The walk should land on a landing, not on a paver that rocks at the threshold. We set the last course to a fixed elevation, then step or ramp the rest of the run so the gate swing still clears.
Edge restraint matters more than pattern. A sailor course against a fence that moves will open up. We pin the edge to a stable base and leave a small gravel reveal if the fence post is going to be reset.
Drainage on a flat Ozona lot
These streets do not have much fall. A walk that is dead level ponds in the middle. We introduce a slight cross-pitch to landscape, and we do not trap water against the pier foundation.
