288th Street North Crystal Beach Aprons
288th Street North in Crystal Beach has the same apron problem as the streets just south of it: older concrete that has settled at the street and a sandy shoulder that will not hold a new field by itself.
Raising the new apron above the existing gutter line just moves the bump. We set the lip to the approach that is already there, then build the base under that elevation.
Replacement order
Saw and remove the failed concrete, including the soft soil under it
Compacted aggregate to the finished elevation, not a sand skim
Pitch off the garage slab
Edge restraint at the street before the first course is set
Color is the last decision. Gulf salt and sun fade a face-colored paver faster than a through-body mix. We specify the mix after the base is agreed.
