289th Street North Ozona Walkways
289th Street North walks the Ozona cottage grid, where the entry path is short and the threshold sits close to grade. A walkway that ponds at the step is a slip and a water problem, not a style problem.
These lots drain slowly. The path has to leave the house even if the yard is flat.
Entry path
Landing pitched an eighth inch per foot off the threshold
Base that is compacted aggregate, not the existing shell
Edge that does not creep into the planting bed
Joint sand after the field is dry, not the same day as a rain
If the existing concrete walk is only cracked at the surface and the base is sound, a re-lay may be the wrong tool. We say so after we open a corner. Most Ozona paths we open are sitting on sand.
