472nd Street North Ozona Paver Walkways
Ozona lots on the north numbered streets are older, narrower, and full of oak. A walkway from the driveway to the side gate or down to the water is not a straight catalog path. Roots lift one side, the fence claims the other, and the soil is sandy enough that an unrestrained edge walks away.
Path, not a patio strip
We keep the walking width to what the gate and the meter actually need, usually a single person with a pool cart. Wider looks generous and then fails where the root plate is. The pitch follows the yard, with a cross-fall so irrigation and roof water do not sit on the pavers. Steps, if the lot drops toward the canal, are built as paver-and-riser sets, not a loose stack of blocks.
Root and base notes
We do not cut a structural root to force a level field. The base is shaped over the root with a thicker section on the low side, and the pavers are a smaller unit that can be reset when the tree moves. Edge restraint is staked into compacted base, not into loose sugar sand. A soldier course keeps the field from opening at the fence.
