47th Avenue South St. Pete Paver Approaches
Driveway approaches on 47th Avenue South in south St. Petersburg meet a sidewalk the city has already ground in places. PaverForge Hardscapes rebuilds the throat so the pavers lock to that sidewalk instead of bridging a void.
An older concrete apron here often drops at the curb and heaves at the sidewalk. We cut the failed apron back, set an 80mm paver throat on a compacted base, and keep the cross-slope so stormwater stays in the gutter.
What fails first on this block
Live oaks along 47th Avenue South lift the walk and the apron on the same root run. A thin overlay looks level for a season, then opens a lip at the sidewalk joint. The city grind does not follow the private apron, so the homeowner is left with the step.
Saw the failed concrete back to sound slab or remove it
Compact the base in lifts before bedding sand
Lock the field to the existing sidewalk elevation
Keep a positive pitch to the gutter, not toward the garage
How we set the throat
Herringbone in 80mm concrete pavers takes the turning load at the street. A soldier course ties the cut edge. Edge restraint is spiked into the compacted base, not laid on sand. If a root is still active, we leave a sleeve and a reset path instead of burying it under a rigid pour.
