730th Street North Ozona Paver Walkways
730th Street North in Ozona runs through older cottages under live oaks. The walk from the street to the porch is often a ribbon of concrete that has heaved at a root and ponds at the bottom step. A replacement walk has to meet the porch without a trip lip and still shed water off the house.
Roots and a high water table
We do not cut a structural root to force a flat walk. Where a root crosses the path we bridge it with a thicker base and a joint that can move, then compact crushed concrete on either side. Ozona lots sit close to the water table after a summer rain, so the base goes in at workable moisture, not as a dumped sand bed.
Width and the neighbor strip
Many of these walks share a fence line. We keep the field inside the property, set a restraint that will not creep into the neighbor grass, and leave a mow strip where the lawn still has to be cut. HOA notes here are usually color and pattern, not a structural review.
