What the walk has to do
We clear the root line the arborist marks, then set a compacted base and a field that can be lifted at the oak. Pitch sends water to the yard, not to the door threshold.
A sailor course at the gate keeps the edge serviceable when the hinge post is reset. We do not grout the walk to the house slab.
