80th Street North St. Pete Courtyards
80th Street North sits a few blocks west of the 4th Street North corridor, in the same mid-century north St. Pete grid. Courtyards here are usually the leftover rectangle between the house, the screen cage, and a side fence. Oak shade keeps the slab damp, and a flat pour ponds at the slider.
Courtyard grades that actually drain
A courtyard on 80th Street North has to fall away from the house and out to a side-yard swale or a flush drain, not toward the lanai track. We set the paver field on compacted base with a consistent pitch, then lock the perimeter with edge restraint so the sand cannot migrate into the planting bed.
Materials that fit the shade
Lighter concrete pavers show less heat than a dark brick in the open, and they are easier to reset if a root lifts one corner later. Where the cage post footings interrupt the field, we cut the pavers tight to the footing and leave a joint we can open without breaking the whole courtyard.
