81st Avenue North St. Pete Courtyards
81st Avenue North is the next block north of the Riviera Bay grid off 4th Street. Courtyards here are often a side-yard leftover between a slab house and a neighbor fence, shaded by an oak and pitched the wrong way after a previous overlay.
A courtyard is a drainage job
We do not drop pavers on the old concrete and call it a patio. The field needs a compacted base, a pitch that leaves the house, and an edge that does not creep into the fence line. If the only outfall is a side swale, the field has to reach it.
Root zones cut and bridged instead of paved over
Pitch away from the slab and the screened porch
Edge restraint on the fence side so the first course stays put
Through-body concrete pavers where the yard sees afternoon sun
Shade and salt air
North St. Pete shade keeps a field cooler and also keeps it damp. We do not seal a damp or dirty field. Joints get locked first. Color is specified through the body, not as a face coat.
