Flush Irrigation Drip-Zone Valve Boxes in Paver Beds
A drip zone buried under a new patio bed is fine until a valve sticks and nobody can find the box. On Pinellas jobs we set the valve box in a paver frame so the lid sits flush with the field and the irrigation tech can lift it without a shovel.
How the box is built
The box goes in after the base is compacted and before the field is locked. We cut a soldier frame around the lid, keep the lid below the trip line, and slope the surrounding pavers so irrigation spray and rain do not pond on the cover.
Leave the valve handles clear of the lid so the cover actually closes.
Do not polymeric-sand the frame tight against the lid. The lid has to come up.
Mark the box on the as-built photo packet so a later owner is not guessing under the mulch.
Keep the box out of the vehicle path. A car tire will crack a standard irrigation lid.
When to add it
The cheap time is during the paver install. Cutting a finished field later means lifting a bay, resetting bedding, and re-sanding joints. If the zone is already buried, we still cut a lift-out rather than leaving a hidden valve under a locked patio.
