Flush Seawall Boarding-Step Recess Plates
A boarding step cut into a Pinellas seawall cap is only useful if the recess plate stays flush, drains, and does not become a trip edge on the cap walk.
PaverForge Hardscapes sets flush recess plates for seawall boarding steps on St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and the bay lots we already pave. Call 727-490-9798 or book a walkthrough at paverforge.com/book-online.
Why the plate matters
The step itself is often a marine contractor's work. The failure we get called for is the cap around it: pavers that rock at the recess, a plate that sits proud of the field, or a joint that funnels wash water into the step well. Salt and foot traffic open that joint fast.
A recess plate has to land on a compacted pocket, not on loose sand kicked in after the step was bolted. The plate should sit flush with the cap pavers so a bare foot and a dock cart do not catch the edge.
Drainage and access
The well needs a way out. We do not seal a plate over a step that still holds water. Bolts and hinges stay reachable. If the marine contractor owns the step hardware, we coordinate the paver pocket around it instead of covering the fasteners.
Send a photo of the cap, the step, and the low joint. We walk the seawall before we lock a number. This is a hardscape detail, not a structural seawall repair.
