Flush Seawall Cam-Cleat Base Plates
A flush cam-cleat base plate keeps the cleat off the seawall cap so the fasteners do not crack the cope. The plate is a hardscape seat, set flush with the walk, not a substitute for a marine engineer on a failed wall.
Why the cleat cracks the cap
A cam cleat bolted straight into a thin concrete cope concentrates the load in a few holes. Salt water works those holes. The cap spalls, and the cleat loosens. A separate plate spreads the fasteners and gives the next inspection a clean edge.
Plate set flush so a dock cart does not trip on it
Fasteners in the plate, not scattered in the cope
Pitch so washdown water does not sit in the recess
An edge that can be lifted without breaking the cap
What this plate is not
The plate does not fix a wall that is already rotating, and it does not replace a proper cleat rating. We set the hardscape seat so the cleat has a stable place to land and the cap can still be inspected.
