Flush Seawall Concrete Panel Joint Inspection Plates
Concrete panel seawalls along Pinellas canals and the bayou edge fail at the vertical joint long before the panel face looks bad. The joint is where water weeps, where the sealant shrinks, and where a future tie or waler repair has to start. A flush inspection plate keeps that joint reachable without sawing the cap every time.
What the plate is
The plate is a small, removable paver or cast recess set in the cap or the landward walk, aligned to the panel joint below. It is not a structural repair and it is not a warranty on the wall. It is an access detail so the joint, the weep, and the hardware behind it can be looked at without breaking the walking surface.
Locate the plate on the joint, not on a random module of the walk
Keep the plate flush so a dock cart and a bare foot do not catch it
Pitch the surrounding field away from the plate so it is not a pond
Label the location on the as-built so the next repair does not have to hunt
When to add one
We add plates when we are already rebuilding the cap walk or the landward pad, and when the owner wants a way to check a known weep or a previous joint repair. We do not open a sound cap just to install a plate. If the joint is actively losing soil, the wall needs a marine contractor first. PaverForge builds the hardscape access around that work.
