Flush Seawall Current-Meter Access Plates

A current meter, or a small acoustic sensor, is only useful if someone can reach the mount without cutting the seawall cap every season. On Pinellas canal lots the cap is also the walking edge. A raised box becomes a trip, and a cut that is patched with mortar becomes the leak. A flush access plate keeps the instrument reachable and the cap continuous.

What the plate is

The plate is a set-flush cover over a small recess in the cap or the landward edge, sized to the sensor mount and the cable, not to a generic deck box. It sits on a restrained paver or concrete collar so the cover can come off without prying the field apart. It is not a structural repair of the wall, and it is not a substitute for a failing cap.

Why a cut-and-patch fails

Cutting the cap to pull a cable leaves a joint that takes splash, foot traffic, and the next storm tide. The patch cracks, the cable chafes, and the meter reads noise. A plate with a trapped lip and a gasketed cover lets the installer lift the instrument, check the mount, and set the cover back flush. Drainage around the recess is pitched off the cap, not into the wall.
