Flush Seawall Dock-Edge Warning-Strip Splice Plates
A dock-edge warning strip is the contrasting band at the water side of a seawall cap or pier walk, there so a bare foot or a cart wheel reads the edge before the drop. On Pinellas caps the strip fails at the panel joint: the cap moves, the strip bridges the joint, and the splice lifts into a trip lip. PaverForge sets flush splice plates so the warning strip can move with the cap without buckling.
What the plate does
The splice plate is a short, recessed metal or composite plate centered on the cap joint, with the warning-strip ends fastened to the plate rather than butted across the joint. The plate sits flush with the cap so a cart wheel does not catch it. Slots, not round holes, let the two cap panels drift a few millimeters with tide load and temperature without tearing the strip. The plate is isolated from the cap concrete with a bond breaker so a later cap repair can lift the plate without grinding the strip out of the concrete.
Salt, UV, and boat rub
Seawall caps in Palm Harbor, Ozona, and the Pinellas gulf canals take salt spray, UV, and the occasional rub from a fender or a lift cable. Fasteners are coastal-grade, and the plate edges are eased so they do not cut the strip. The warning strip itself is a marine-grade contrasting band, not household stair tape, and it stops at the plate so a damaged section can be replaced without pulling the whole run. Drainage weepholes in the cap are kept clear of the plate so the splice does not become a dam.
