Flush Seawall Fender-Whip Socket Plates
Why the whip cracks the cap walk
A fender whip takes a side load every time a boat leans on it. Bolted through the cap pavers, that load cracks the surrounding courses and opens a path for salt water into the cap.
When the whip is pulled for a storm, the open hole is a toe catch on the walk.
What the socket plate does
A flush socket plate is a framed bay in the seawall-cap field. The whip socket bolts to the plate, not to the pavers. The plate comes up for service without breaking the courses around it.
With the whip out, a cover sits flush with the walk. The plate does not become the drain. Cap pitch and any existing scupper still do that job. Stainless or composite fasteners, not bare steel, hold the socket in salt air.
