Flush Seawall Outfall Screen Collars
An outfall screen on a Pinellas seawall has to come off for a hose, then go back on without rocking the pavers around it. A raised frame catches cart wheels and lets washdown water sit in the bolt holes.
We set a flush collar so the grate stays level with the dock walk and the surrounding field does not walk when the screen is lifted.
What an outfall screen collar has to do
The collar is the hardscape detail, not a drainage redesign. It keeps the frame flush, leaves a joint the grate can be lifted from, and pitches water off the screen instead of into the cap joint.
We locate the outfall and any cap joint before we cut. The collar does not cover the screen, and it does not dam the weep path the wall already has.
