Flush Seawall Riprap Toe Inspection Pads
A riprap toe is the rock laid at the water side of a seawall to slow scour. Once a paver walk covers the land side of that toe, the only way to see the rock line is to pull the field apart. A flush inspection pad keeps one bay liftable.
PaverForge Hardscapes sets those pads on St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and the Pinellas canal lots we already work. Call 727-490-9798 or book at https://www.paverforge.com/book-online.
What the pad is
It is a small, framed opening in the cap walk, set flush so a hose and a cart still cross it. The frame is isolation, not structure for the wall. The wall engineer or marine contractor owns the toe design. We own the paver bay that lets someone look at it later.
How it is built
Locate the toe line with the marine contractor before the walk is locked.
Set a rigid frame so the surrounding field can be compacted without dropping into the opening.
Keep the pad flush with the cap walk, pitched so it does not become a pond.
Leave the bay liftable. Do not mortar it into the field.
Do not cover a weep, a tie-rod end, or a flap gate with the same pad.
What it is not
It is not a repair for a wall that is already rotating, and it is not a substitute for the rock. If the toe has disappeared, the marine contractor leads. We come back to reset the walk once the rock line is where they say it is.
