Flush Seawall Tide Staff Reference Plates
Canal homes in Shore Acres, Snell Isle, and the Old Northeast often have a private tide staff or a painted survey mark on the seawall cap. The mark disappears when the cap spalls, or it becomes a trip edge when someone bolts a stick-up plate over the walk.
What the plate is for
A flush reference plate is a small concrete or paver collar set into the cap or the landing behind it. The staff or the survey disk stays at a known elevation, the plate is broom-finished or paver-matched so it does not hold water, and the edges are eased so a bare foot does not catch. It is a maintenance detail, not a navigation aid and not a substitute for a licensed survey.
We isolate the plate from the cap joint so seasonal movement does not crack the mark loose. Where the cap already has a cope beam or an aluminum cover, the plate sits in the landing behind the cap, not on the structural joint. Salt splash is expected, so we do not rely on a painted face.
How to start
PaverForge Hardscapes is based in St. Pete Beach and sets these plates with dock landings and cap repairs across Pinellas. Call 727-490-9798 or book at https://www.paverforge.com/book-online. A photo of the existing mark and the cap joint is enough to scope it.
