Sand, pitch, and the first course

Beach sand does not lock a paver field by itself. We excavate, place compacted aggregate, and screed a bedding layer so units sit even. The first course is restrained so it does not walk toward the street or the dune side.

• Positive pitch away from the cottage and any low lanai threshold

• Edge restraint that stays put in salt air

• A wash-down path that does not turn the walk into a sand trap

• Joints locked after compaction, not left open for the next cell
