Harvard Street NE Old Northeast Courtyards

Harvard Street NE is one of the named blocks on the north end of Old Northeast, closer to the Snell Isle line than to downtown. Courts are short, brick streets set the grade, and a second car often lives on the pavers.

Grade is the job

The brick street is not a level reference you can ignore. We shoot the garage lip, the sidewalk, and the low corner before we order base. A field set too high dams water at the stoop. A field set too low becomes the neighborhood drain.

Oaks along Harvard lift edges the same way they do on Poplar and Locust. We keep a soldier course that can come up later, and we do not promise a sand bed will hold a root.

Build sequence

• Pins and the private-side limit of the brick street confirmed first.

• Excavation deep enough for compacted aggregate, not a skim of sand.

• 80mm pavers where a car sits, with a border that can be lifted.

• Pitch to the street or an existing drain, never into the side yard.

• Staging on the court so the brick street stays passable.

Sound stones on a failed base get reused. Painted-face pavers that have already faded on the west side get replaced with through-body color.
