Mailbox Post Footing Collars on Pinellas Paver Walks

A curbside mailbox on a Pinellas walk gets hit, replaced, and hit again. If the post is grouted into the paver field, the next knockdown takes a square yard of bedding with it. We set a footing collar so the post can come out and the surrounding pavers stay.

Footing, collar, and the city setback

The post footing is concrete below the bedding, sized for the mailbox the owner actually uses, not a 4x4 in loose sand. Around it we cut a small paver collar that lifts without tearing the walk. The collar sits flush so it is not a toe-catcher on the way to the curb.

  • Confirm the mailbox setback with the city or HOA before the footing is poured.

  • Keep the post out of the sidewalk clear zone.

  • Do not run the soldier course into the post. Leave a lift-out ring.

  • Slope the walk past the collar so water does not stand at the base.

After a knockdown

If the post is already broken and the pavers have scattered, we reset the bay, pour a new footing if the old one is cracked, and rebuild the collar. That is a repair, not a full walk replacement, when the base under the rest of the path is still sound.
