Flush Seawall Flag-Staff Socket Plates

A courtesy flag on a Pinellas seawall or finger pier needs a socket. Drilled straight into the concrete cap, that socket becomes a trip edge, a rust streak, and a crack starter when the staff takes a gust. A flush flag-staff socket plate is a hardscape plate set in the cap or the dock-edge paver field so the socket sits flush with the walking surface when the staff is stored.

What the plate is doing

The plate carries the socket, spreads the lever load from a staff in the wind, and gives the surrounding pavers a clean edge they can lift against. When the staff is out, a flush cover or the plate itself leaves no lip above the cap. Water has a way out of the socket so it does not stand in the tube and corrode the pin. The plate is isolated from the structural cap so a later socket replacement does not mean chipping concrete.

Where it sits

On a seawall cap, the plate is set in a formed pocket with its own drain path and a joint that can move with the cap. In a paver field behind the cap, it sits on a compacted base like any other flush collar, restrained so cart wheels do not kick the corner up. Either location keeps the socket out of the main walking line and clear of cleats, ladders, and dock lines.

Service without a saw

Sockets clog with salt and grit. A plate that lifts, or a cover that comes off without grinding the cap, is the one that gets cleaned. PaverForge sets the plate so the adjacent pavers or the cap joint can be opened, the socket serviced, and the field put back without a scar across the dock edge.

PaverForge builds flush flag-staff socket plates for seawall caps and dock-edge pavers in Pinellas County. Call 727-490-9798 or see paverforge.com/services.
