22nd Street South Driveways in South St. Petersburg
22nd Street South cuts through south-central St. Petersburg lots that were never designed for two SUVs, a boat trailer, and a trash day. Concrete slabs crack at the garage lip. Asphalt ruts at the alley. PaverForge Hardscapes rebuilds these drives as interlocking fields that can be opened later for a plumbing repair without pouring a new slab.
South-side constraints we plan for
Narrow side yards that force pallet drops on the street and hand-carting to the pad
Alley-loaded parking pads that need a clean turn radius and a compacted apron at the alley
Mature oaks that heave the old slab and need a root-aware excavation, not a blind cut
Older house slabs that sit lower than the street, so the new field has to hold slope without dumping water at the threshold
Rebuild sequence on 22nd Street South
We saw-cut and remove the failed slab or asphalt, check the subgrade, and rebuild with geotextile where fines pump. Base is compacted in lifts. Bedding sand is screeded to a consistent thickness so the first course stays flat. Joints get polymeric sand after the field is locked, then a face-compact pass so the sand drops instead of sitting as a crust.
If the owner wants to keep a strip of existing concrete at the garage, we treat that as a transition — isolation at the slab, matching elevation, and a soldier course that hides the joint — not as a leftover that will trip people.
