58th Avenue South St. Pete Paver Walkways
58th Avenue South dead-ends toward the bay side of Pinellas Point. The front walk is short, the side walk is the real one, and both sit on fill that has settled away from the house. A walk that was flush with the stoop in the dry season is a step down by September.
Who uses this walk
It is the path from the driveway to the kitchen door, and often the only dry route to a dock gate. We size it for two people passing a cart, not for a single stepping-stone line that disappears into the turf.
How we keep it from sinking
We cut out the settled ribbon, geotextile the sugar sand, and compact a stone base in lifts a plate can actually reach. Concrete pavers with a restrained edge hold a line better than mortar-set stone on this soil. Pitch leaves the stoop and finds the yard, with a flush sleeve if a landscape light or a hose bib already breaks the run.
Steps and landings
Where the yard drops toward the water, we break the walk into a landing instead of a ramp that is too steep to walk wet. Each landing gets its own edge restraint. We do not stretch one long pour of pavers down a slope and hope the sand stays.
Walkway FAQ
Can you match a discontinued front-walk paver? If the unit is gone, we replace the run and use the old pavers as a border only if they are still sound. A mixed field of three colors reads as a repair, not a walk.
Will the walk flood in a king tide? A walk cannot sit below the tide line and stay dry. We set it as high as the stoop and the yard allow, and we will not promise a path that stays above a tide that covers the street.
