Casler Heights Paver Yards in Northeast St. Pete
Casler Heights sits in northeast St. Petersburg, inland of Shore Acres and the bayou streets, with ranch lots, mature oaks, and driveways that often meet a city sidewalk before the apron. PaverForge Hardscapes builds and repairs paver yards in this pocket from our St. Pete Beach shop. Call 727-490-9798 or book at https://www.paverforge.com/book-online.
What the lots actually need
Most Casler Heights drives are single-width with a slight fall toward the street. The original concrete is often cracked at the garage threshold, and the side yard is the only staging lane. We excavate the failed slab, proof-roll the subgrade, and place a compacted crushed-concrete base rather than spreading pavers over a settled pour.
Live oaks along the parkway push bedding sand. Where roots cross the field we undercut, set a root barrier only where it will not girdle the tree, and keep the edge restraint spiked outside the root flare. Utility locates come before any cut: irrigation, cable, and the occasional shallow electric sleeve run the same edge as the old ribbon curb.
Driveway section and drainage
Vehicle lanes get 80 mm concrete pavers in a herringbone or 90-degree bond, with a darker soldier course that hides tire scuff. Bedding is ASTM C33 concrete sand, not leftover masonry sand. Pitch is about two percent away from the garage and the house, with a flush transition at the slab so the door seal still clears.
After a summer cell, sheet flow from the roof can pond at the walk if the old concrete was pitched back. We tie downspouts to a pop-up or a side-yard splash pad instead of dumping onto the new field. Polymeric sand goes in only after the plate compactor has locked the units and the surface is dry.
Walks, side yards, and HOA-quiet staging
Front walks in Casler Heights are often a short run from the driveway to a low stoop. We match the driveway border so the two fields read as one yard, and we keep the walk at or just under the weep screed. Side-yard trash and meter pads can be rebuilt in the same visit if the gate width allows a plate compactor.
