Causeway Isles Estates Neighborhood Driveways
Causeway Isles Estates sits on the island side of the Corey Causeway, between St. Pete Beach and the mainland bridges. Drives here take salt air, king-tide splash, and guest parking on short lots. A concrete slab that looked fine in January often shows joint washout and edge-restraint failure after the first fall tide cycle.
Coastal details we build in
Salt-air metal edge restraint instead of painted steel that rusts into the border
Open joints or PICP bands where the lot sits in a mapped flood zone
Garage-slab isolation so the house does not telegraph settlement into the field
Darker soldier courses that hide tire scuffs from weekend boat traffic
Base and drainage
Sugar sand under these lots does not hold a thin base. We undercut to a competent layer, place geotextile, and compact crushed concrete in lifts. Bedding is ASTM C33 sand, not leftover concrete sand. Pitch is a consistent two percent off the slab toward a lawful discharge — never toward a neighbor’s seawall cap.
When the city sidewalk has been ground and raised, we rebuild the private throat to the new grade so the first paver does not become a trip edge.
Storm week
After a named storm we walk the edges, check restraint pins, and resand washed joints before they open into a trip. Causeway Isles owners who book that inspection early avoid a mid-season tear-out.
