Coastal Setbacks and Dune-Adjacent Paver Work in South Pinellas
A lot that sits against a dune or a coastal setback is not a standard backyard patio. Equipment access is tighter. The city and the county care where the work stops. Wind and wash can pull sand from a thin edge in one storm. We do not treat these jobs like an inland courtyard with a nicer view.
What we check before we dig
Where the setback line actually sits versus the fence the last owner built.
Whether the city or county wants a permit for the hardscape inside that line.
How we get stone to the backyard without driving on protected sand.
How the field drains so wash does not cut a channel under the first course.
How the field is built
Base depth stays honest. Edge restraint is mechanical, not a hidden plastic strip hoping the dune holds it. We keep the work on the legal pad and we will walk away from a request to push pavers into a protected strip. St. Pete Beach, Pass-a-Grille, Treasure Island, and the Redingtons all have versions of this constraint. The quote names access, dump method, and where the field stops.
