Coquina Key Hardscapes: Pavers on the South Bay
Coquina Key sits just south of downtown St. Petersburg on the bay, a short run from our St. Pete Beach shop and a different job than a Gulf-front cottage. Streets are tight. Yards drop toward the water. Afternoon storms sit in the low corner of a patio if the field was set on native sand.
PaverForge Hardscapes installs and re-levels pavers, walkways, and small retaining walls on Coquina Key so the surface stays locked after the wet season, not just the week after install.
What a Coquina Key lot actually needs
Bay-side soil here is mixed fill and sand. A pretty paver color will not fix a field that was never drained. We size the base for the load, pitch the surface away from the house, and restrain the edge so the field does not creep toward the seawall or the slab.
Compacted aggregate base sized for patio or driveway load, not a thin sand bed
Positive drainage toward a working low point, not toward the house or the cage
Edge restraint that holds through heat and summer rain
Joint sand that locks after compaction instead of washing out in the first storm
Driveways, patios, and re-levels
Most Coquina Key calls are driveways that have settled at the apron, patios that pond after a storm, and walks that rock against an older slab. If the existing stones are still sound, we re-level instead of tearing the field out. If the base was never built, we rebuild it and reuse what we can.
Read the south St. Petersburg and flood-zone guides on this blog if you want the same spec in writing. Coquina Key jobs use the same crew and the same sequence.
How to start a Coquina Key quote
Call PaverForge Hardscapes at 727-490-9798 or use the book-online page. Send a few photos of the surface, the low spots, and the street frontage. We typically reply the same business day and will walk the lot before we lock a number. We also serve Maximo, Isla del Sol, Pinellas Point, and downtown St. Petersburg from the same shop.
