Fifth Avenue North Storefront Walks in St. Petersburg
Fifth Avenue North runs from midtown toward the Old Northeast and carries a mix of storefronts, offices, and houses that share one sidewalk. A poured slab that heaves at a meter box or a tree lawn looks tired in a month. Interlocking pavers let us lift a lid, reset a course, and keep the storefront open while the rest of the walk stays in service.
How we stage a Fifth Avenue North walk
We split the frontage so one door stays live. Base and edge go in first, then the field, then joint sand after the last wet saw is off the sidewalk. City right-of-way rules decide where a hopper sits. We do not block a bus stop or a fire hydrant to save a dump fee.
Alley dumpster and delivery pads get a thicker section than the cafe floor.
Hose bibs and water-meter boxes finish flush so chairs and dollies do not catch.
A channel or slot drain sits at the slider if the suite pitches to the walk.
Detectable-warning plates stay at the curb ramp when the walk is public.
Trees, brick streets, and historic-adjacent lots
Some Fifth Avenue North blocks sit next to brick streets and mature oaks. We set root barriers only where the drip line is already lifting the walk, and we do not trench a barrier through a flare that the city wants left alone. Where a historic review packet is required, we photograph existing pattern, border color, and apron geometry before the first lift.
