Flush Seawall Private-Aid Daymark Base Plates
Some residential seawalls on the Pinellas bayous carry a private aid to navigation: a daymark board on a short post or a wall bracket, usually required by the permit that came with the dock. The board is not the hardscape problem. The base is. A proud steel plate on the cap becomes a trip edge and a rust streak.
What a flush plate is for
We set a recessed plate or a collar in the seawall cap so the daymark post bolts down flush with the walking surface. The recess is formed or cut so the fasteners can be reached without tearing up the cap, and the plate is isolated from the aluminum or timber cap so dissimilar metals do not chew each other in salt spray. Drainage out of the recess matters. A cup that holds bay water will rust the bolts before the board fades.
What we do not claim
PaverForge does not permit private aids and does not set navigation characteristics. The owner or the dock contractor keeps the Coast Guard and county paperwork. We build the cap detail so the mount can be inspected, re-bolted, and walked past barefoot. If the cap is already spalled at the old mount, we cut back to sound concrete before the plate goes in.
