Gandy Gardens Neighborhood Driveways in South St. Petersburg
Gandy Gardens sits just south of the Gandy Boulevard corridor in St. Petersburg, a pocket of mid-century lots with short front yards and a lot of through-traffic noise at the throat. PaverForge Hardscapes rebuilds interlocking concrete-paver driveways here when the original slab has cracked, the apron no longer meets the sidewalk, or stormwater sheets back toward the garage instead of the street.
What these lots actually do
Most Gandy Gardens fronts are shallow. The garage slab is close to the right-of-way, live oaks sit on the property line, and there is rarely a place to stack base without blocking the neighbor. We measure the slab lip first, then set finished elevation so a sedan does not scrape and rain still leaves the field.
A 60 mm patio paver under daily cars will rock. We spec 80 mm units, a soldier or sailor course that can be swapped after a utility cut, and a crushed-concrete base compacted in thin lifts at workable moisture. Organic pockets under the old slab get undercut. Edge restraint is pinned, not a rusted steel strip left from the last landscaper.
Staging on a busy corridor
Gandy traffic does not wait for a dump truck. We stage pallets on mats, keep one overnight parking space when we can, and time cuts so dust is not blowing into the next driveway. Utility locates happen before excavation because older laterals and irrigation laterals are common on these blocks.
