Harris Park and Crescent Heights Pavers
Harris Park and Crescent Heights sit north of downtown St. Petersburg, a few minutes from Crescent Lake. The housing stock is older. Live oaks sit close to the drive. Many of the original slabs have already been patched once and are moving again.
PaverForge Hardscapes installs and re-lays pavers in both neighborhoods. We are based in St. Pete Beach, but the construction problem here is familiar: sand, roots, and a driveway that has to meet a low garage slab.
Roots first, then stone
Cutting a root to force a dead-flat field is how you kill the tree and still get movement later. We design around the root zone when we can, use a deeper compacted base where the drive must stay, and tell you honestly when a section should stay as a flexible walk instead of a rigid pad.
Do not bury a heaving root under two inches of bedding
Keep polymeric sand off the trunk flare
Reset only the failed bays when the rest of the field is sound
Match color and texture so a repair does not read as a patch
Short drives still need a real edge
A 20-foot driveway fails at the edge first. Without a restraint, joint sand walks out and the first course rolls. We set a mechanical edge, compact the joints, and pitch the field so stormwater is not sitting in the wheel path.
