Isolating a New Screen-Room Addition From an Existing Pinellas Patio

A screen-room addition on an existing Pinellas patio fails when the new footer is poured as if the old field were a slab. The room wants to move with the house beam. The patio wants to move with the soil. Lock them together and both crack.

The isolation detail

We lift a clean band where the new footer will land, sleeve the posts, and keep a bond-breaker between the new concrete and the paver bedding. Kick-plate weeps stay open. The field is re-laid to the sleeve with a soldier-course ring so a later repair does not look like a blotch.

If the existing patio already ponds at the slider, we correct pitch before the room goes up. Flattening the field to make the addition look level is how you get standing water against the new kick plate.
