MLK Street and 9th Street North Driveways in St. Petersburg
Ninth Street North — Martin Luther King Jr. Street on the signed stretches — is a north-south spine through central St. Petersburg. It is not downtown alleys and it is not a gated HOA street. Lots are compact, many are alley-loaded or side-loaded, and the drives take daily in-and-out traffic from people who actually live on the block.
We already cover Central Avenue, 22nd Avenue North, 4th Street North, and 34th Street. This page is the missing midtown corridor between those.
What we see on these lots
Short throats from sidewalk to garage, so pitch and the garage threshold have to be designed together.
Older concrete that cracked at the sidewalk joint and heaved at a live oak.
Neighbors who share a curb cut or an alley. You cannot block both sides of a 9th Street lot for a week.
Build notes
The field gets a real compacted base and a soldier-course or concrete edge that can take a turning tire. We keep the sidewalk joint clean, match city apron elevation, and leave utility lids accessible. If the owner wants to keep existing pavers from a side yard, we only reuse units that still have a clean face and a square edge.
Historic-adjacent blocks near Kenwood and Midtown sometimes need a simpler color and pattern than a beach-lot ashlar. We will say so before we order pallets.
