Moccasin Lake Nature Park-Adjacent Hardscapes in North Clearwater
North Clearwater streets that feed Moccasin Lake Nature Park sit on the same sugar sand as the rest of mid-Pinellas, with the added problem of a preserve edge. Water that leaves a new patio has to stay on the lot. Dumping sheet flow toward the park is how a pretty install becomes a neighbor complaint and a washout after the first late-summer cell.
Preserve-edge rules we actually build to
We compact a crushed-aggregate base, set a consistent pitch to a catch basin or street, and keep the first course off any obvious drip line from large oaks. If the lot already has a swale that works, we leave it. If the old concrete is holding a puddle against the slab, we correct the grade before pavers go down.
No fake permeable claims on a dense-graded base that cannot infiltrate.
Geotextile under loose fill so the base does not punch into the sand.
Tight-lot staging so park visitors are not squeezing past a pallet stack.
A written pitch plan before the first paver is set.
Patios and side yards
Many of these houses want a side-yard walk to a screened lanai. That walk needs the same base as the drive, just thinner pavers if it is pedestrian only. We will not mix a 60mm patio field into an 80mm drive without a clean border so the two fields can move a little without telegraphing a crack.
