Northeast Park Driveways between 4th and 9th in St. Pete
Northeast Park is the grid in north St. Petersburg between 4th Street and 9th Street North, roughly from 30th Avenue to the 50s. Houses sit close to the street, garages are at slab height, and camphor and oak roots run under older walks.
Threshold and the first ten feet
The failure we see most is a dish at the garage. Water that used to run to the swale now sits at the slab because the old concrete settled and a later overlay was set flat. We set the paver field a hair below the slab edge and pitch the throat toward the street or a side swale.
Roots get a decision, not a surprise. A thin base over a root will heave. We either thicken and barrier where the owner wants the line held, or we neck the walk around the tree and keep the canopy.
Alley and side-yard access
Some of these lots still use a side gate for bins. A walk that is too narrow, or a pad that blocks the gate swing, becomes a weekly fight. We measure the bin path before we lock the border.
