Outdoor Fireplace Gas-Shutoff Boxes in Hearth Pads
An outdoor fireplace hearth that buries the gas shutoff looks finished until the valve needs a turn. The shutoff has to stay reachable, and the paver pad has to stay clear of the firebox heat.
How we set the box
We sleeve the gas stub and set a flush access box in the hearth pad, outside the heat setback of the firebox. The box sits on compacted base, and the lid matches the paver elevation so it is not a trip edge.
The hearth pitch leaves the firebox. Ash and rain should not pond on the valve lid. A soldier ring marks the access so a later repair does not cut a random unit.
What we do not do
We do not run the gas line under the thinnest part of the field with no sleeve, and we do not set the shutoff inside the firebox clearance. The plumber owns the valve. We own the pad and the access.
